Since the introduction of first contact lens in 1887, these marvelous creations have continued to revolutionize the vision correction field.  Contact lenses provide the option of not having to wear corrective glasses.  Before this was the only option with no alternative to correcting their vision.  Contact lenses allow for a more natural feel that does not interfere with regular everyday life as corrective glasses might.

Corrective glasses can become quite bothersome, bulky, and distracting in many ways.  They can alter the field of vision; the whole head must be turned to see left and right as opposed to contact lenses which mimic the eyes natural ability to view from the left and right without any accompanied movement of the head.  During exercises or activities that induce heavy sweating, glasses can annoying slide down the nose as well as cause irritated areas on the bridge of the nose from the constant rubbing action.

As opposed to glasses, contact lenses provide one with many different options.  There are many different choices of contact lenses that range from disposable to extended wear contacts and even those that change the eye color.

Many people choose daily use contact lenses both for convenience and for sanitary reasons.  Daily use contacts are meant to be worn for a full day and then disposed of at the end of the day.  There is never any cleaning or soaking of these specialized contact lenses.  All that is required is that you throw them out when the day is up.  A new, clean pair is waiting for you in the morning.

For those who want something a little more lasting, there are also two-week disposable and monthly disposable.  These require that you remove them before going to sleep and place them in sanitizing contact solution every night before use in the morning.

There are even contacts for those who want to put them in and ‘forget about them’.  These last normally for 30 consecutive days without having to be removed until the 30 day time period is over.  Contact lenses such as this can be slept in.  This eliminates the worry of having to remove the contact lenses every night and soaking them.  This is especially helpful for those who are forgetful.

Colored contact lenses are also available.  These can be for corrective purposes and cosmetic.  Colored contact lenses can change the eye color to practically any other color and can even be used to change the way the eye appears altogether.  Cat eye contact lenses and white out contact lenses have become increasingly popular over the past years and especially during Halloween.  These allow one to make a fashion statement and still have the function of corrective lenses.

Contact lenses provide one with an amazing alternative to traditional glasses.  There is no longer the irritation of ‘blind spots’ caused by the design of glasses and those who are self-conscious of their corrective glasses find relief in the non-noticeable aspect that contact lenses present.  For those who need visual correction, contact lenses should definitely be given a try.

Contact lenses need to be cleaned everyday either with old traditional method of a contact lens solution or with a newer ultrasonic contact lens cleaner.
